Church wants to pick up lunch tab for kids

McCOOK, Neb. — A McCook church has donated enough funds to pay off the negative lunch accounts of 26 students at McCook Public Schools.

The McCook Board of Education will be asked to approve the donation, at the regular board meeting Monday, 6:30 p.m. at the junior high conference room.

The First Congregational Church has given McCook Public Schools $457.20 to take care of lunch accounts of students who have fallen behind in payments.

The board will also be asked to approve four resignations and four new hires.

The resignations, all effective at the end of this school year, came from Lori Jumps, who has taught high school biology at McCook High School for 21 years; Jennifer Jimenez, speech pathologist for 4th to 12th grade; Jeremy Yilk, physical education teacher at McCook Elementary; and Jeff Holthus, junior high physical education teacher.

Teaching contracts the board will be asked to approve are for Joseph Imus for head boys basketball coach, currently activities director at Riverside Public Schools in Cedar Rapids, Neb.; Gina Imus for McCook Elementary, currently second grade teacher at Boone Central Elementary in Albion, Neb.; Jeremy Young for junior high PE, currently K-5 PE teacher at Lexington Public Schools; and Jennifer Juenemann for speech pathologist, currently working at Northwest Kansas Educational Cooperative in Oakley, Kan.

Other items slated for the board meeting include:

- a presentation by the eighth grade Science Olympia team at McCook Junior High: Conner Snyder, Payton Dellevoet, Garrett Kaps and Lucas Gomez-Wilson.

- a presentation by the Bison Tech Team

- MHS participation/coach ratio from 2016 to 2018.

- a review of the 2019-20 student handbook, with approval scheduled at the June board meeting
