Split tears up the Indians' playoff plans
NORTH PLATTE — Some often say the spring sports season really doesn’t get serious until May.
In other words, the rest of this week sets up to be really intense for every McCook Bison team.
All four varsity squads will be competing for top league honors starting with today’s GNAC track-field showdown at North Platte.
Opening events are set for 2 p.m.
McCook certainly brings big goals where schools like Class A Kearney no longer compete. The Bison will still take on great competition in Columbus, Hastings, Scottsbluff Gering and those host North Platte Bulldogs.
Watch for results and other details in Friday’s Gazette.
On Friday, both the GNAC and Southwest Conference golf tournaments are set to take place.
The Bison have their choice on competing in Cozad (SWC) or taking a much longer road trip into Scottsbluff (GNAC).
Cozad would be a great destination where the Haymakers, Ogallala, Gothenburg, Minden, Ainsworth and host Cozad await the Bison.
Not far away, McCook won the Gothenburg Invite at Wildhorse Golf Course just two weeks ago.
These league tourneys lead into the district meets next week which determine golf and track/field state spots.
The great league tests continue Saturday when McCook High’s undefeated tennis girls team plays in their GNAC tournament at North Platte.
McCook has won every tourney and dual this season — so the Bison should have a good chance to match last year’s historic GNAC boys tennis team title.
Senior Kassidy Michaelis can build on her perfect No. 1 singles record this season while every other Bison player are aiming for high Class B seeds when state arrives just two weeks from today.
