Bison alum, state champ wins college league

SURPRISE, Ariz. — The Ottawa (Ariz.) University men’s golf team made school history on Wednesday by winning the Golden Star Athletic Confernece Men’s Golf Championship held at the Catta Vedera Country Club this week.
Leading wire-to-wire, the Spirit completed the title run with 906 strokes over the 54-hole event.
Along with winning the team title, McCook High grad and two-time Class B state champion Noah Hofman would make it a double for the Spirit by brining home the individual title.
Hofman led a 1-2-3 finish by OUAZ players with his 7-over 223.
He was tied for third after the first round in which he shot 77, but consecutive rounds of 73 moved led him to the crown.
The Spriit held just a one stroke lead after an opening round 316, but they came back with the two lowest rounds of the tournament by any team with a 290 in the second and 300 in the third.
Carter Lewis rebounded from a first round 79 with rounds of 72 and 74 respectively to move into a second-place finish and 9-over 225.
His even-par 72 was tied for the low round of the week by anyone in the field.
Lewis was named the GSAC Men’s Golfer of the Year while head coach Clayton Sikorski being named the Coach of the Year.
Hofman, Lewis and Barnetche were each selected to the all-conference team.
