Bison boys test unbeaten Indians for awhile
OGALLALA, Neb. — McCook’s boys took an early lead on 21-0 Ogallala Friday night and actually missed a couple chances to build on that momentum.
Junior Konor Rakes shook up Ogallala with an early triple just before senior DJ Gross worked inside to score for the 7-4 Bison advantage.
However, the unbeaten Indians showed why they poured in 101 points against Gering earlier last week.
They tallied a 10-0 run vs. McCook Friday night and really never lost control again of the 81-56 home win.
“There were times we got going at Ogallala’s speed and we don’t quite have the depth for that,” coach Jeremy Yilk said in his post-game radio interview.
The Bison (8-8 record) still delivered some highlights like senior Riley Mai hitting two three-pointers.
Both Mai and Rakes finished with eight points.
Gross dropped in a team-high 10 points followed by Mai, Rakes, seniors Gabe Sehnert (seven points) and Seth Dugger (six).
“Our effort and attitude is always top notch,” Yilk commented. “It’s frustrating at times because the results aren’t always there.”
However, McCook delivered great Saturday results as the Bison beat Ainsworth, 52-46, during “Color Day” at MHS.
A recap of that contest appeared in Monday’s Gazette.
