Higher seeds rule RPAC hoops openers

ARAPAHOE, Neb. — Grace Hogeland’s 23 points led the Southern Valley girls past Arapahoe, 50-37, on Saturday and into RPAC tournament quarterfinal play.
Mandy Schoen and Kynlee Marquez added seven points as the Eagles built a 30-13 halftime lead.
Junior Terri Hilker tallied eight points in the third quarter en route to an Arapahoe-high 15.
Senior Joslyn North added nine of her 11 points after halftime.
Alma 52, MV 22
The Medicine Valley girls (3-11 record) ran into a tough Alma Cardinal team during Saturday’s RPAC first round.
Sophomore Jessa Bailey’s eight points paced the Raiders with junior Sabra Schmidt and freshman Kaylyn Roblee scoring six apiece.
Senior Dakota Hughes hit three of four from three-point range and tallied a game-high 15 for Alma (7-8 overall).
Bertrand 54, SW 12
Southwest shot just 13 percent at 4-for-30 during an RPAC tourney loss on Saturday.
Senior Nicole Dewey’s seven points and five rebounds topped the 1-14 Roughriders.
Dewey hit a thre-pointer.
Freshman Bailey Oltmer (three points) and junior Jadyn Brooks (two) were the other ’Riders to hit shots.
Bertrand evened its season record at 7-7.
BOYS
W-P 65, Falcons 42
WAUNETA, Neb. — Senior Duncan Rector ripped the home nets with 24 points including five triples during Wauneta-Palisade’s RPAC tourney-opening win.
Junior Tucker Boos broke through for 10 more points while raising the Broncos’ record to 11-3.
Senior Caid Doetker and junior Ty Duvel delivered six points each.
Following a 15-14 first quarter, the Broncos took control and led 35-22 by intermission.
No individual stats were obtained for the 4-10 Falcons.
DC-S 83, MH-C 54
Sophomore Lincoln Waters’ 16 points led five double-figure scorers for West No. 2 Dundy County-Stratton Saturday night.
The Tigers shot 69 percent from three-point range, hitting nine of 13.
Snior Jacob Krutsinger-Haines and junior Michael Frederick scored 13 points each including Krutsinger going three-for-three outside that arc.
Damon Latta tossed in 12 points while freshman Mark Nelms netted his varsity-best 10.
Nelms nailed both “triples” he attempted.
Freshman Weston Morrow tallied 20 points to follow his 16 during the previous MH-C game on Thursday.
Senior Ethan Broker scored 11 and sophomore Zach Tidyman put 10 through the hoops.
A 35-point Tiger second quarter doomed the 1-14 Wolves, who trailed 54-20 entering halftime.
They did outscore DC-S, 16-8, during the final eight minutes.
