Warrior girls, Falcon boys reach Trail top five
McCOOK, Neb. — Recaps from the Cattle Trail Tournament not mentioned in a previous Gazette.
Girls’ semifinals
Hitchcock 47,
Decatur Comm. 44
Junior Kass Kisker’s 15 points and a dramatic final three-pointer from senior Kyleigh Scott decided this Friday showdown.
Senior Amanda Horinek added 10 points for the Falcons while Scott made six steals.
The Decatur Red Devils still made a great comeback after trailing 21-12 at halftime.
Junior Alyssa Van Vleet (12 points) and sophomore Mandy Koerperich (nine) fired up the Devils just like they did during Thursday’s win over Wauneta-Palisade.
Van Vleet made six of six free throws.
Senior Jean Soderlund hit three of her four shots to total six points.
DC-S 75, M-HC 33
No fewer than five double-digit scorers powered the Tigers’ victory.
Senior Adalene Krutsinger’s 20 points paced DC-S followed by senior Grace Frederick’s double-double (15 points/10 rebounds).
Sophomore McKinzie Baney added 12 points while guards Sable Lambley (10) and Maggie Lutz (10) teamed to hit four of five three-point tries.
The eventual tourney champs took a 21-7 lead that reached 41-17 by intermission.
Junior Avery Johnson’s 10 points led the Wolves. Sophomore Jaycee Widener pulled down 10 rebounds.
Boys’ semifinals
DC-S 65,
Southwest 47
Freshman Quade Myers’ 14 points on six of nine field goals (67%) helped the Tigers start fast and finish strong Friday night.
Junior Michael Frederick added 12 points with classmate Lane Shillington scoring 10 including two triples.
Junior Bryan Leslie delivered a game-high 18 points to lead Southwest, but the Roughriders only shot 29 percent from two-point range to those Tigers’ 50 percent.
W-P 66,
Arapahoe 22
The Broncos blasted in front, 23-8, and never allowed more than six points during any of those next three quarters.
No individual Bronco stats were obtained.
Sophomore Cord Frink’s five points topped Arapahoe. Senior Carson Schroeder corralled eight rebounds.

Hitchock romped on Friday despite freshman Weston Morrow’s 17 points that led Maywood-Hayes Center through this fifth-place game.
A 22-1 third quarter clinched the Falcons’ first win this season.
Decatur 38,
M.V. 30
The Decatur Red Devils allowed only eight points after halftime of this seventh-place game comeback win.
Medicine Valley (0-4 record) built a 22-17 halftime advantage.
However, the Red Devils (1-3) rallied thanks to junior James Garner’s 13 points in this seventh-place game.
Senior Zac Corbett powered to eight points, 13 rebounds and six blocked shots.
Freshman Hunter Garner scored seven.
Sophomore Gage Van Meter and freshman Tod Mastin finished with four points each.
M-HC 40,
Med Valley 34
No details were obtained about the Maywood-Hayes Center Wolves’ first win on Saturday.
Falcons 35,
Decatur 27
Hitchcock “pitched” a 12-0 third-quarter shutout en route to Friday’s victory.
The Falcons are 2-2 overall. Hunter Garner (12 points) and James Garner (eight) put in 20 of those 27 Devil points.
Girls
Arapahoe 27,
SW 19
A 22-5 first half ignited Arapahoe to the Cattle Trail fifth-place finish Saturday.
Senior Mariah Watson’s 13 points on six-for-11 shooting fueled this second win of the weekend.
Junior Hilker (eight) and freshman Hope Koller (four) teamed to score another 12. Hilker hit two crucial “triples” to help Arapahoe take control.
Senior Joslyn North netted three points.
Watson’s 12 rebounds added to her second consecutive double-double.
W-P 45,
Med Valley 33
Senior Dakota Ingold’s 12 points salvaged seventh place for W-P while juniors Monique Gooden and Michaela Dukes added 11 points each in Saturday’s game for seventh place.
Dukes secured 11 rebounds though Med Valley owned a 48-32 edge thanks to sophomore Acelyn Klein (14 rebounds), freshman Kaylyn Roblee (10) and senior Jasmine Tutlam-Hazen (10).
Klein tallied a game-high 19 points.
Fershman Alexa Sandman made her only three-point attempt for W-P.
Southwest 25,
M.V. 18
The Roughriders avenged an earlier defeat this season as senior Nicole Dewey delivered 13 points.
Junior Jadyn Brooks added eight points with senior Cierra Clements and junior Haylee Adams both making one clutch basket.
Sophomore Jessa Bailey (eight), Roblee (six), Klein (two) and junior Sabra Schmidt (two) scored Raider points.
The teams were tied 10-10 through one half.
Arapahoe 51,
W-P 48
Joslyn North’s 20 rebounds and 19 for Watson made the difference in a Warrior overtime victory on Friday.
Both Watson (14 points) and North (12) delivered double-doubles to go with Hilker’s 13 points.
The Warriors outrebounded W-P, 52-31, which overcame 31 turnovers.
Dukes’ 14 points and Gooden’s 13 paced the 1-3 Broncos.
Gooden also swiped seven steals while freshman Maycee Wheeler nabbed five.
The Broncos scored 17 fourth-quarter points to force OT at 43-43 but fell short.
