McCOOK, Neb. — Ellen Marie “Annie” Morse, age 101, of McC0ok, passed away at Community Hospital of McCook.
She was born in Arvonia Township, Osage County, Kan., on April 17, 1917, to Edward and Janet (Moore) Gardner.
Annie graduated from Osage City High School in 1931. She went on to continue her education and graduated from the Newman Medical Center in Emporia, Kan. This was the start of Annie’s career as a registered nurse. She was commissioned in the Army Nurses Corp in 1941 as a 2nd Lieutenant. She served in hospitals in both the United States and England. She was discharged from the Army on Dec. 31, 1945.
Annie met Oscar Lee Morse when he was brought into her care after a plane accident. They were then married on Dec. 14, 1942. The couple moved to McCook on June 1971, when Lee retired from the USAF in Omaha at Offutt Airbase and SAC. He preceded her in death on June 24, 1981.
Annie was a member of the VFW, Military Officers, Military Widows, Air Force Association, and Library Board for the City of McCook, Library Board Foundation, Methodist Quilting Group, and the Community Hospital Auxiliary. She volunteered for over 20,000 hours to Community Hospital.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
She is survived by friends, Carol Vlasin of Crete, Neb.; Stan and Stephane Vodehnal of Johnson Lake, Neb.; Jim and Cathy Kenny of McCook; Steve and Lee Clapp of Kearney, Neb.; Kathy Bieker of McCook; and the daughters of Wayne Potthoff, Kathy, Sue and Jane.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, 2018, with words of comfort by Jim Jones.
Interment will be at Fort McPherson, Maxwell, Neb., with Military Honors at 2 p.m. on Nov. 23, 2018.
Visitation will be held prior to the funeral services only.
