Voters make changes in Furnas County
BEAVER CITY, Neb. — After elections Tuesday, Furnas County has a new sheriff, Cambridge has a new mayor, two incumbent county commissioners are unseated and the Oxford village board will be rearranged.
Doug Brown, a write-in candidate for sheriff, came out ahead of Sheriff Kurt Kapperman, 1,118 votes to 955. These are the initial vote totals and are final until after the county’s canvassing board meets.
In the race for the mayor’s seat in Cambridge, challenger David Gunderson pulled ahead of incumbent Mark Harpst, 236 votes to 183. There were 3 write-in votes.
On the county level, challenger Mike Sexton beat out incumbent William Lewis for the District 1 commissioner position, 459 votes to 291. Lewis is chairman of the board of commissioners.
In the commissioners District 2 race, incumbent Larry Weaver lost to challenger Dennis Tegtman who garnered 460 votes to Weaver’s 179. There was 1 write-in vote.
In the Oxford village board race, The top three candidates were separated by three votes. Challenger Scott Hamilton, with 135 votes, came out on top of the four candidates for three open positions. Following behind Hamilton were incumbents Michael Minarek, 134 votes, Chad Cunningham, 133 votes, and Bill Grossnicklaus, 125 votes; and 20 write-in votes.
There appears to be some confusion regarding propositions put before Cambridge voters: for and against sales taxes, the continuation of an economic development plant and a bond for a swimming pool. More information will be available later.

County assessor: Melody Crawford, 1,926 votes; 23 write-in votes.
County attorney: Tom Patterson, 1,686 votes; 73 write-ins.
County clerk: Kennis McClelland, 1,934 votes; 16 write-ins.
Clerk of the district court: Victoria Barnett, 1,866 votes; 25 write-ins.
County treasurer: Barbara Powell, 955 votes; 15 write-ins.
Cambridge school board: (3 positions) Jason Houghtelling, incumbent, 379; Sally Farquhar, incumbent, 361 votes; Trevor Kubik, incumbent, 299 votes; Drew Cramer, 266 votes; Brock Mowry, 229 votes; Jason Weiss, 166 votes.
Beaver City Council: (3 positions) Quinn Barnas, incumbent, 187 votes; Roger Powell, incumbent, 169 votes; Rebecca Robinson, incumbent, 132 votes; Eric Youngquist, 122 votes; and Janie Skelton, 53 votes. There were 12 write-in votes.
Holbrook village board: Matthew Schulz, incumbent, 57 votes; Darren Huxoll, incumbent, 51 votes; Shelley Johnson, 45 votes; Lori Metzger, 30 votes; Tom Fischer, 23 votes; Sheila Pearson, 9 notes; 8 write-in votes.
