90th birthday
The family of Wallace E. Keen of McCook is hosting a reception in honor of his 90th birthday on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018. The reception is Oct. 17, 3 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 411 E. Sixth in McCook. No gifts, please. He graduated from McCook High School in 1947 and then from McCook Community College. He started working for the railroad in 1951, learning to telegraph in Red Cloud, Neb. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 38 years and retired in 1989 as wire chief at the McCook depot. An avid hunter and fisherman, he’s also a technology enthusiast, and at 90 is fondly known as the great communicator in the family. He met his wife Elfriede in the same village where his ancestors farmed in Northern Germany. His family includes his wife, Elfriede; children, Heide Perry (Simon) of Munich, Germany and Angela Keen-Tabije (Norman) of Honolulu, Hawaii; two grandchildren, Alex Perry and Sarah Perry and two step-grandchildren, Logan Tabije and Lance Tabije.
