Dec. 6, 1945 - Sept. 24, 2018
LONGMONT, Colo. — Clarence Jay Treat, Jr., 72, of Erie, Colo., known as Jay by many who knew and loved him, was born in Wilsonville, Neb., on Dec. 6, 1945, and passed away Sept. 24, 2018, surrounded by family.
Although he was born a country boy, his family retired from farming and moved to Boulder, Colo., in 1955.
Jay is survived by his son Todd Treat; grandchildren; a nephew and nieces
Jay loved his heritage and treasured his Nebraska and Kansas ties to family and friends. He was a diehard Huskers fan and a Nebraska boy at heart. He moved to Boulder, Colo., in 1955 with his parents, Clarence and Gertrude Treat. Moving at the young age of 10, Jay missed the county life. He stayed busy with playing baseball and going to sports games with his father and friends. Jay worked for the City of Broomfield, Colo., for 33 years in the Parks and Recreation department. Jay bought his home in Erie, Colo., back in 1978, where he resided until his death.
Jay had a true passion for his Indian and Western art, and enjoyed working in his garden until the aches and pains forced him to stop. He was a huge supporter of the National Western Stock Show and Cheyenne Frontier Days. He spent 49-50 years attending the CFD festivities, rodeos and concerts. He was a common figure you’d see at CFD exhibits, from cowboy boots to beautiful wood carving and basket weaving. Everyone who knew Jay knew he had the gift of talk, and he enjoyed gathering with friends and family. Jay always had a story to share no matter where he went or who he was with. We will miss his special flare for life and laugh.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Gertrude Treat; sister, Betty Pierce and sister, Mabel Reed.
A special Remembrance Day for Jay will be held at the Foothills Community Park located at 800 Cherry Ave. in Boulder, Colo., on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, at 1 p.m.
Graveside service and interment will be held on Oct. 20, 2018, at the Wilsonville Cemetery in Wilsonville, Neb., at 11 a.m.
