MPCC rodeo team earns second at Stampede
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — The Mid-Plains Community College Rodeo Team continues to hold its own following two days of competition in North Platte.
The team hosted the MPCC Stampede Friday and Saturday at the Wild West Arena.
The MPCC cowboys finished second in the men’s team standings and claimed the top spot in the team roping thanks to brothers Chance and Wyatt Williams of Ord.
“I was really happy to see the Williams boys do as well as they did,” said Garrett Nokes, MPCC timed event coach. “All they do is team rope, and they work really hard at it. They struggled last year, but I’m excited they’re doing as well as they’re doing this season.”
Sawyer Strand, of Harrisburg, S.D., was second in the steer wrestling. Marshall Still, of Callaway, ended up third in that event followed by Blake Henry, of Rushville, in fourth place, and Landon Sivertson, of Ree Heights, S.D. in sixth.
JD Draper, of Oakley, Kan., placed third in the tie down roping.
Team roping duo Sean Miller and Seth Pearson, both of Callaway, also finished third while JT Bradley, of Brewster, came in sixth.
“I’m real proud of the way the kids competed and handled themselves,” said Garrett. “The hardest rodeo to win is your hometown rodeo no matter what happens because it means more. “
