McCOOK, Neb. — Paul A. Meints, age 95, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

Paul was born to Albert J. and Minnie E. (Baker) Meints on June 8, 1923, in Beverly, Neb. To this union four children born.
On June 21, 1947, Paul married the love of his life, Wilma Handel in Oberlin, Kan. The couple was blessed with a son, Pete. The family made their home in Wauneta, Neb.
Paul proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Navy. Paul’s service began in January of 1944 and he was medically discharged in May that same year.
Paul was a past member of the Wauneta American Legion Post 0304 for 41 years. He also worked at Ford Motors in Wauneta for 23 years. It was during this time that Paul obtained the nickname “Numbers” as he had all the part numbers memorized. In the late 1970s, Paul and Wilma moved to McCook to take over the E.F.D. Freight Delivery Service.
Paul and Wilma enjoyed their involvement with the Southwest Nebraska Antique and Rod Club where they were members. Paul was also a member of the Prairie Dawgs Car Club.
In his free time, Paul enjoyed woodworking and quilting. He was also quite the poet.
Paul is survived by his son, Pete (Geraldine) Meints of McCook; grandson, Chris (Dawn) Meints of Valparaiso, Ind.; and two great-grandchildren, Dr. Samantha Meints of Boston, Mass., and Shelby Meints of Barneveld, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wilma Meints in 2006; two sisters, Edith Scott and Caroline (in infancy); and a brother, Kenneth (Darla) Meints.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook. Funeral services will also be at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home following the visitation, beginning at 2 p.m., with Pastor Lonnie Felcher, officiating.
Burial at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta will conclude the services.
