Helping McCook family's fight with cancer
McCOOK, Neb. — Their winning spirit hit full strength even before the McCook Cardinals downed Cozad, 10-0, Tuesday night.
“We’re going to do some team photos for Calvin before the game,” coach Chad Graham revealed about his group of age 10-and-under players.
They were all thinking about teammate Calvin Corbett, and Graham wants nothing more than to spread the word abut something far bigger than any ballgame.
He shared this post from Calvin’s relatives on a gofundme.com page that the Gazette sports department is happy to publicize:

“A little over a week ago, the lives of our brother Chris and sister-in-law Tiffany flipped upside down.
Their second-born son, Calvin, went into the ER for what was thought to be an allergic reaction.
Tumors were found and he was transported more than three hours away to the Children’s Hospital in Omaha for a biopsy.
There, they heard the words parents never want to hear...words, parents should never have to hear:
“Yur son has cancer.”
During the course of the next three days, they were given a diagnosis, prognosis and suggested treatment.
Our nephew, Calvin, who’s nine years old, has been diagnosed with stage 4 / group 4 / high risk rhabdomyosarcoma, with the alveolar genetic marker.
This is an aggressive form of cancer and has a 20 percent cure rate if the treatments are successful.
Because of the location of the tumors (which are pressing up against major blood vessels), surgery is not permitted at this time.
Calvin will need to undergo chemo in hopes of shrinking the tumors so that surgical removal can take place.
They are still waiting on the results of the bone marrow biopsy which took place at the same time his chemo port was put in.
A U.S. Army veteran, our brother Chris is the sole financial provider for his wife and four kids and has not left Calvin’s side since that trip to the ER.
Chris is on family leave which unfortunately does not provide enough to cover expenses.
Expenses that sadly won’t stop adding up during this difficult and life-altering situation: gas, food, utility bills, car payments, mortgage, everyday living expenses.
These are on top of the new medical expenses that will now be coming in.
This past week is just the beginning to a long battle ahead...physically, emotionally and financially.
Please help Chris and Tiffany by donating. Any amount is helpful! Along with your donation, prayers for Calvin are appreciated.
Updates will be provided as we learn more.”
