FCB Juniors raise record to 3-0
McCOOK, Neb. — McCook’s First Central Bank Juniors stole 21 bases and an early lead helped defeat Gothenburg 13-5 on Thursday.
The district rival Melons took an early 3-0 lead, but early happiness was smashed with McCook’s five-run first inning.
Coady Armstrong stole home to get the 3-0 McCook Juniors started.
Colton Stevens’ two-RBI double quickly caught the Melons.
Matthew Van Pelt and Konor Rakes both dashed across home plate following stolen bases.
Dawson Bredvick had moved to third following his walk. He brought home the tie-breaking score on Logan Barenberg’s grounder and First Central Bank never trailed again.
McCook continued adding runs. In fact, the Juniors would score at least one during all five innings before mercy rules were enforced.
Bredvick and Stevens scored three times apiece. Armstrong and Rakes both rounded the home bases twice.
Ty Stevens delivered a team-high three RBIS with Stevens and Joel Carter adding two each.
Carter tripled for another extra-base hit. First Central Bank cashed in on 11 walks from Melon pitchers.
Bredvick pitched 3 2/3 innings to highlight McCook on the mound.
He only surrendered one hit, one walk and one unearned run while striking out three.
Tanner Jacobs pitched the first 1/3, leaving with a 5-4 lead.
The 21 stolen bases featured Armstrong swiping four, Jacobs three, Ty Stevens three and Colton Stevens three.
