Eagles soar at Arapahoe Invite

ARAPAHOE, Neb. -- Southern Valley’s quality and depth showed at Tuesday’s Arapahoe Invite.

All five Eagle golfers finished with top-10 scores to help Southern Valley win the Arapahoe Invite with a 330 team score.

Southern Valley was led by Spencer Brown and Riley Mustin, who finished third and fourth overall, respectively. Brown shot a 79 (39-40), while Mustin rallied in the second round to finish with an 81 (44-37).

Not far behind the Eagles’ top duo were teammates Chaston Burgeson, Ryder Lewis and Carter Brown. Burgeson finished seventh with an 84 (43-41), while Lewis was eighth with an 86 (44-42) and Brown was 10th with an 87 (43-44).

Medicine Valley finished a distant second with 381 points. The Raiders, who were without one of their top golfers in Sheldon Johnsen, got a fifth-place finish from Sid Schultz, who scored an 82. Schultz was the leader after the first round, when he shot a 35, but he would go on to score a 47 in the second round to fall out of the top spot.

Joseph Chancellor also edged his way into the top 10 by tying for 10th place with his score of 87 (44-43). Justin Pendleton and Brady Henderson both scored a 106 to tie for 28th place.

Cambridge finished third with a 389 score. The Trojans were led by Preston Carbaugh, who won the Arapahoe Invite with a 73 individual score. Carbaugh was tied for third place after the first round, when he shot a 39. He would fire a tournament-best 34 in the second round to come back and win his third-straight individual title this season.

Cameron Hagedorn had Cambridge’s second-best score of 88 (43-45), which placed him 14th. Ethan Sides (109 score) and Brandon Horwart (119) were third and fourth, respectively, for the Trojans. Cort Fiene rounded out the Cambridge scoring with a 125.

Southwest tied with Pleasanton for sixth place, as both teams scored a 404. Denver Holdcroft led the Roughriders with his 87 (46-41), which tied him for 10th place. Dylan Hofman scored a 100, while Paul McConville (105), Wyatt McConville and Caleb Shald (115) also scored for Southwest.

Host Arapahoe was next among Gazette finishers with an 11th place score of 449. The Warriors were led by Cord Frink’s 97 (49-48), which placed him 18th in the field. Tanner Diesley carded a 107, while Hunter Swanson had a 119.

Maywood-Hayes Center was represented by Ethan Broker and Jack McIntosh at Tuesday’s invite. Broker carded a 135 (65-70), while McIntosh had a 130 (75-55).

Many area teams will now prep for Thursday’s Medicine Valley Invite, which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at Arrowhead Meadows in Curtis.
