BROKEN BOW, Neb. -- The McCook boys continued to flex their muscles in the field events at Thursday’s Broken Bow Invite.
The Bison won six events, including four field events, to place second in the boys standings. Their 112 points were only outdone by champion Scottsbluff, which put up 141 points.
DJ Gross maintained top form in the shot put and discus. He won both events with tosses of 53-05 in the shot put and a season-best 157-02 in discus.
Other individual winners for the Bison were Alec Bunger in the long jump with an effort of 21-03.75 and Seth Dugger in the triple jump with a mark of 42-02.
McCook’s 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams also took gold Thursday. Corban Jernigan, Bunger, Drew Harvie and Ethan Wilcox won the 400-meter relay with a time of 44.53, while Isaac hegwood, Jernigan, Dugger and Cameryn Berry won the 1600-meter relay with a time of 3:34.76.
The 4x800 relay finished second with a time of 8:42.67. TJ Renner, Hegwood, Steven Hinze and Josh Huff ran the relay in that order.
Third-place performances came from Jernigan in the 100-meter dash (11.65), Riley Mai in the two-mile run (10:28.90), Landon Towne and Tyler Lytle in the pole vault (12-06) and James Mockry in the triple jump (39-09).
In the girls’ competition, the Lady Bison finished third with 72 points.
Lady Bison to win gold Thursday included Brolin Morgan in the triple jump (31-08), Mackenzie Smith in discus (113-11) and Emily Jacobs in the 800-meter run (2:31.97).
Jayceea Hanson finished just behind Smith in the discus throw with a toss of 113-05 to take silver. She also placed third in shot put with a heave of 35-09.
Other third-place finishers were Emily Arp in high jump (4-08), Haiden Loop in pole vault (10-0) and the 4x400 relay team of Robin Grigg, Holli Thomas, Riley Sis and Jacobs which finished with a time of 4:25.05.
McCook finished the girls’ invite with 72 points. Cozad won the girls’ team title.
