Non-incumbents file for office
McCOOK, Neb. — Meeting the 5 p.m. Thursday deadline to file as non-incumbents, three McCook men filed for one seat on the McCook City Council, and two McCook woman filed for a seat on the Red Willow County board of commissioners.
Two men filed for two open seats on the McCook Public Schools board of education.
Joining incumbents Gene Weedin and Mike Gonzales on the city council ballot will be Bill Longnecker, Bruce Baker and Jared Muehlenkamp. The three men threw their hats into the ring after Bruce McDowell decided not to seek another term on the council.
Andrea Wolfe and Cayla Richards filed for the Third District county commissioner position currently occupied by Jacque Riener. Riener filed as an incumbent by the Feb. 15 deadline.
No one filed for the county surveyor's position, a vacancy created by the resignation of Gary Dicenta two weeks ago. An agreement that commissioners signed with surveyor Brian Langenberg of Holdrege runs through Dec. 31, 2018.
McCook residents Dennis Berry and Mike Langan filed for two positions on the board of education held currently by Bob Elder and Brian Esch, neither of whom decided to run again.
In Indianola, Dale Stritt decided not to run another time for a seat on the Indianola Council, and Mary Foster and Travis Herrman filed for that seat. No one filed for the Indianola mayor's position currently held by Brent May, who did not file for re-election.
In the races for seats on the Middle Republican Natural Resources board of directors, John E. Palic filed for the District 4 seat currently held by Steve Cappel, who did not file with the Secretary of State's office for re-election. Brad Randel re-filed for his current District 6 position.
