DCS too much trouble for Southern Valley
DCS 60, Southern Valley 39 (boys)
OXFORD, Neb. -- Dundy County-Stratton wasted little time dispatching Southern Valley.
The Tigers outscored the Eagles 23-4 in the opening quarter to set the tone in a 60-39 win at Southern Valley High School on Friday.
DCS outscored Southern Valley 37-35 over the final three quarters to prevent any comeback.
Southern Valley (4-16 record) was led by Jaden Quinn's 12 points. He was the long Eagle in double figures, as freshman Brody Yant was next with nine.
Individual scoring for DCS (16-5) was not obtained.
Both teams conclude their regular season schedules with games Friday. Southern Valley hosts Axtell, while DCS will play at Wauneta-Palisade.
DCS 52, Southern Valley 33 (girls)
OXFORD, Neb. -- In the girls' game, DCS outscored Southern Valley 25-12 in the second half to defeat the Lady Eagles 52-33 in the final regular season game for both teams.
After a deadlocked 11-11 first quarter, DCS put up 16 points in the second stanza to take a 27-21 lead at the break.
The Lady Tiger defense came out strong in the second half, as Southern Valley was limited to seven and five points in the third and fourth quarter, respectively.
Grace Frederick led DCS (17-4) with 18 points, while Adalene Krutsinger added 13.
Southern Valley (15-8) only had one in double figures, as Lauryn Samuelson scored 10. The loss snapped an eight-game winning streak for the Lady Eagles, which included their RPAC Tournament title run.
Both teams now begin subdistrict play in the C2-10 tournament. DCS is the top seed and will play Southwest at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the McCook Community College Graff Event Center.
Southern Valley is No. 3 and will play No. 2 Cambridge following the DCS-Southwest game at approximately 7:30 p.m.
