he McCook Community College Indian baseball team dropped its second game on the season Wednesday, losing to Garden City Community College 16-9.

Down 2-0, the Indians got on the scoreboard in the second thanks to a pair of Broncbuster walks, an error and a fielder’s choice.

MCC took a 3-2 lead in the third with singles from Jake Sanford (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia), a walk by Dylan White (Las Vegas), a single by Dalton Bartling (Ashland) and a run-scoring force out off the bat of Angel Mojica (Denver).

The Indians extended the lead to 5-2 lead in the top of the fourth. Michael Sookdeo (Brampton, Ontario) had a one-out single followed by a Garden City error, a White single and another Garden City error.

“We were a lot better at the plate today and played much better on defense but gave up a huge inning in the fifth,” MCC Coach Jon Olsen said.

Garden City tied the game with three runs in bottom of the fourth and exploded for seven runs in the fifth off three MCC pitchers to take a 12-5 lead.

“We just didn’t throw enough strikes,” Olsen said.

On the mound Connor McGonigal (Omaha Burke) got the start lasting four innings. Kaden Sitzman (McCook) and Casey Quagliano (Colby, Kan.) each pitched one-third of an inning in the fifth, before Ryan Marstiller (Centennial, Colo.) finished off the inning and allowed an earned run in both the sixth and seventh innings and the start of the eighth.
