BARTLEY, Neb. — Francis D. Haag, of rural Bartley, passed away Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, at McCook, Neb. He was 93 years old.

Francis was born Aug. 25, 1924, on a farm north of Lebanon, Neb., to Francis A. and Grace M. (Warner) Haag. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1941 where he played the clarinet and was an avid baseball player, later playing on town teams as a young man. Following graduation he began farming in the area.

On June 9, 1949, Francis married the love of his life, Margaret Ann (Stritt) Haag in Indianola. Together they made their home on a farm south of Bartley where they raised their three children. He loved country life; farming, raising cattle, and he was especially talented with machinery and as a welder.

Francis was a lifelong member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed listening to polka and big band music as well a good western. He enjoyed reading, and was especially well read on his favorite topic of Custer and the plains Indians. He thoroughly enjoyed sharing stories and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother and sister-in-law, George and Neola Haag; and brother, Bernard Haag.

Survivors include son, Gary Haag and wife, Cindy of Bandera, Texas, daughter, Marla Lytle and husband, Larry of Bella Vista, Ark., and son, Gayle Haag and wife, Elaine of Bartley; sisters-in-law, Nelda Haag of Cambridge, Alice Mae Stritt of McCook and Mary Ann Stritt of McCook; nine grandchildren, Blaine Haag and wife, Tracie; Jessica Bortner and husband, Heath, Garrett Haag and wife, Emily; Meghan Lytle, Allison Forrest and husband, Jeremy, Lucas Haag and wife, Jennifer, Buck Haag and wife, Kaitlin, Shelby Siegfried and husband, Cody, and Denton Haag; and nine great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to McCook Community Hospital Home Health/Hospice.

Rosary will be recited Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, 7 p.m., at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, 10:30 a.m., at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Indianola with Father Greg Pawloski and Father Gary Brethour co-celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery, Indianola, Neb.

Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook is entrusted with arrangements.
