GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — Marion North, 67, of Grand Island, formerly of McCook, Neb., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at his home with his loving family by his side.

Celebration of life services will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. Dan Naranjo will officiate.

Marion was born on Aug. 5, 1950, in Imperial, Neb., the son of Harry and Mattie (Redden) North.

Marion was a longtime resident of Imperial, where he graduated from Imperial High School. Following graduation, he began employment with BNSF Railway. Marion “Red” continued to work for BNSF for the next 42 years; he retired as a CTC signal maintainer.

On Dec. 2, 1972, he was united in marriage to Karen Kohout. The couple made their home in McCook until moving to Grand Island to be near family.

Marion enjoyed reading science fiction, watching old movies, gameshows and Nebraska football. Marion loved to hunt and fish. It was a passion that he shared with his grandsons. On the last fishing trip, Marion helped his grandsons both catch master angler fish. He loved being a grandpa and adored his family.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Karen of Grand Island; daughter, Amanda D. North of Lincoln; son, Shane (Amanda K) North of St. Libory; grandsons, Quinten, Liam and Xander of St. Libory; brother, Harry (Celia) North of Buffalo, Mo.; sister, Donna Hein of Hanford, Calif.; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Marion was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald North; sisters, Linda Brown and Ella Handley.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
