Region's top team shoots past MCC
SCOTTSBLUFF – Region IX’s top team rolled to a 115- 56 win over the McCook Community College Lady Indians Saturday.
“Western Nebraska is historically the standard for success in the Region IX South and they definitely showed it today,” MCC Coach Kellen Fernetti said.
This is the sixth time this season the Lady Cougars scored in triple-digits and came into the match averaging 82.1 points a game.
“They are a well-coached, talented basketball team and executed well for 40 Minutes,” Fernetti said.
Sophomore Colby Cox, Wauneta-Palisade, led MCC with 15 points.
Freshman Sam Hinkle, Rifle, Colo., had 12 points and seven rebounds.
Going forward the coach said his team needs to ask itself “Are we getting better today? Where are we going tomorrow? How are we going to achieve our dreams?”
Western improves to 19-3, 10-0 in Cougar Palace, and 7-0 in Region IX conference play.
MCC falls to 3-15 and look to snap an eight-game losing streak at home Monday when the Doane JVs come to the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center Monday for a 6 p.m. game.
The Lady Indians then hit the road again for a Wednesday game at Laramie County Community College and on Saturday at Trinidad State.

The basketball game between the McCook Community College women and the Doane JV’s -- which was postponed Monday because of winter weather -- has be re-scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center.
The Lady Indians will travel to Cheyenne, Wyo. Wednesday for an 8 p.m. contest against Laramie County Community College; return home for the makeup game with Doane JV Thursday at 6 p.m.; then back on the road in Colorado for a 2 p.m. game at Trinidad State Junior College.
