Harold E. Fleider

CAMBRIDGE, Neb. — Harold E. Fleider, age 78, of Cambridge, passed away at his home on Aug. 21, 2017.

He was born in Ord, Neb., on March 28, 1939, to Charles and Francis Marie (Bowers) Fleider. Harold went to school in Ord and graduated from Ord High School in 1957. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1957 and served until he was honorably discharge in 1963. Harold continued to serve in the U.S. Navy Reserve for another two more years.

Harold was united in marriage to Velda Merritt on Sept. 18, 1959. She preceded him in death on July 1, 2001. The couple made their home in Hastings, Neb., where Harold was involved in general contracting, especially as a dry wall technician. The family moved to Cambridge in 1981. At that time, Harold started to work as a custodian for the Cambridge Public Schools. He retired in 2001 after Velda's death.

Harold married Gail Palmer-Kasson on July 10, 2004, and she preceded him in death on April 2, 2010. Harold moved to Trenton for a time, then back to Cambridge in 2017.

Harold enjoyed reading Christian novels, Bible studies, gardening, woodworking, computer games and visiting with family and friends. He was a member of the Trenton American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Velda and Gail; sisters, Evelyn Markowski and Helen Skalla; grandson, Justin Weaver and great-grandson, Isiah Cappel.

Harold is survived by his three daughters, Lorri and husband, Dale Brown of Hordville, Neb., Joni Fegley and Georgia and husband, Mike Sexton, all of Cambridge; six grandchildren and 17 great- grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Clark Bates officiating. Military Honors will be performed at the graveside by the American Legion Post of Cambridge and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.

Visitation is today, Aug. 23, 2017, at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary until 7 p.m., with family be present from 5 to 7 p.m.
