Muckdogs pounce on Hoppers, make tourney final
FELLING FIELD – The Tigers Muckdogs defeated the Roberts Farms Grasshoppers 4-0 in a Minors Division tournament semi-final contest on Sunday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout.
Landon Kmoch earned the win for the Tigers Muckdogs, allowing two hits, striking out 10 and walking one.Bryson Gullion struck out one to finish the game.
Carter Hartwell, Kmoch and Reese Gillespie each drove in one run to lead Tigers Muckdogs. Kmoch led the Tigers Muckdogs with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with ten stolen bases.
Evan Merrihew led the Roberts Farms Grasshoppers with two hits in two at bats. The Grasshoppers stole six bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Merrihew led the way with three.
The Muckdogs move into the Minors Division tournament title round and are scheduled in to play an opponent to be determined on Thursday at 6 p.m.
With the loss, the Grasshoppers drop down to the elimination bracket and will play a yet to be determined opponent Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. They’ll meet he winner between McCook National Bank Rivercats and Great Plains Realty Lugnuts who play a 6 p.m. elimination game.
Rivercats survive
The High Plains Podiatry Clippers stayed in it until the end, but the McCook National Bank Rivercats pulled away late in an 8-7 elimination game victory on Sunday.
Game four of the Minors Division tournament was tied 6-6 with the McCook National Bank Rivercats batting in the top of the seventh.
Jack Baker singled and then stole second and third base followed by home plate to score the go-ahead run.
The contest featured quality hitting from both sides as the High Plains Podiatry Clippers collected nine hits and the McCook National Bank Rivercats had 11 hits in the high-scoring affair.
The Rivercats captured the lead in the first inning by scoring two runs off hits from Jalen Collicott, Davian Hanson and Baker.
Two more runs were scored by McCook National Bank in the top of the third followed by the High Plains Podiatry Clippers scoring two of their own in the bottom of the inning. The Rivercats scored when Hanson singled driving in one run and Jack Baker doubled driving in another.
The High Plains Podiatry Clippers then answered when Zach Hinze and Espn Hall collected RBI singles.
The High Plains Podiatry Clippers evened things at 6-6 when Hall drove in teammate Kaden Wilhelmson with an RBI single.
Haddix earned the win for the McCook National Bank Rivercats.
Hall, Zach Hinze, and Jude Schmick each collected multiple hits for the Clippers.
Hinze provided fans with the loudest hit as he homered over the left field wall in the first inning.
The High Plains Podiatry Clippers tore up the base paths, as five players stole at least two bases. Andrew Pochop led the way with four.
