BENKELMAN, Neb. — Esther Eleanore Wiese was born on Jan. 11, 1930, at home on the family
farm in Pierce County, Neb., to Elmer J. and Bessie R. (Ahlman) Dommer. She attended school at Pierce County Country School, Zion Lutheran Parochial School (Pierce, Neb.) and graduated from Pierce High School in 1948.
Esther was united in marriage to Lyle Wiese at her parents’ home on Jan. 17, 1949. The couple made homes in Pierce, Norfolk, Neb., and Benkelman, where they lived from 1965 to present.
Esther’s main job was as a mother and homemaker, but she also had various part-time jobs.
She opened her own greenhouse, The Garden Center, for several years until cancer forced her to
close. She was a member of the Garden Club and served as president, several quilting clubs, and
the Lutheran ladies organization. Esther enjoyed quilting, gardening, sewing, ceramics, camping
and traveling.
Esther Wiese passed away early Friday morning, June 23, 2017, at the Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman. She was 87 years of age.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; daughter-in-law, Trudy Wiese; granddaughter, Christa; brother, Melvin Dommer; and great-granddaughter, Madison.
Survivors include sons, Rod Wiese and wife, Lana, Larry Wiese and wife, Carol, Brad Wiese and
wife, Sherri, Scott Wiese and wife, Deb, all of Benkelman, Kip Wiese and wife, Deonn of St. Francis,
Kan., daughter, Bonnie Willis and husband, Bob of Benkelman; brother, Dennis Dommer and wife,
Frances of Columbus, Neb.; sister, Beulah O’Neil and husband, Gene of Camarillo, Calif.; sister-inlaw,
Anita Dommer of Eau Claire, Wis.; 21 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. (MT), Wednesday morning, June 28, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church in Benkelman with Pastor Doug Hjelmstad officiating. Interment will follow services in the Benkelman Cemetery, Benkelman.
Visitation is today until 6 p.m. (MT) at Zion Lutheran Church in Benkelman.
A memorial has been established to the Benkelman Cemetery.
