City of McCook front-end loader Dave Gummere compacts the tree pile near the city transfer station on Old Highway 6 recently. The pile increased considerably with branches downed and damaged during a heavy snow storm April 30. Kyle Potthoff, the city’s public works director, said they’ll chop the tree pile into mulch later this summer. Until then, just north of the tree pile, is already a pile of mulch, which is free for the taking for gardening and landscaping.
