McCOOK, Neb. — Red Willow County District 3 Commissioner Vesta Dack submitted a letter of resignation during the commissioners’ weekly meeting this morning.

Dack’s letter indicated that because of her husband Dean’s health concerns, they need to be closer to specialty doctors in North Platte, and are moving to Paxton. The resignation is effective Sunday, April 30.

Dack said that although they will continue to own pasture land and their farm residence in Red Willow County, her legal residence will no longer be in the third district of Red Willow County, which is required of commissioners by state statute.

Commissioners will take official action on the resignation during their April 24 meeting. Applications to fill the vacancy will be accepted by a committee of three elected officials (other than commissioner) — county clerk Tami Teel, county treasurer Sue Wesch and county attorney Paul Wood.

Dack has served 11⁄2 terms. In her letter of resignation, Dack wrote, “It has been an honor to serve you the past six-plus years, and I am sure that the appointment for my position will serve you well.”
