CAMBRIDGE, Neb. — At this pace, Cambridge’s girls will soaring far past 1,000 points this season much like senior Alea Shaner did during her Trojan basketball career.

The Trojans tallied 152 during Monday’s Don Stine Invitational with none being more productive than all-around super athlete Alea Shaner.

Shaner won the long jump, triple jump and helped two Cambridge relays win championships while earning invite “Most Valuable Athlete” honors.

Freshman Korynn Clason wasn’t too far behind the fantastic Shaner pace. She took second in both those long and triple jumps just ahead of Southwest tops-in-hops Nicole Dewey.

Dewey won the high jump (5’) just above Wauneta-Palisade junior Faith Simpson (4’10”).

Clason won the 200-meter dash in a tight race against Dundy County-Stratton speedster Sable Lambley.

Lambley, the 100-meter dash champion — finished her 200 meters in 28.74 but couldn’t quite outran Clason’s 28.47.

Clason then finished the Trojan championship by running a final 400-meter leg on Cambridge’s winning 1600 relay.

Kati Moore, Cali Gunderson, Shaner and Clason finished in 4:27.29 — more than 13 seconds faster than top challenger Southern Valley.

Moore, Marlana Kent, Alea Shaner and Kayla Shaner captured the 400-meter relay title (54.66).

Kaelie Tomlin added one more Trojans title when she won the pole vault.

Dundy County-Straton’s No. 2 team finish featured two titles from steady senior Madison Lambley in both the 800 and 1600-meter runs.

Teammate Payton Zarkowski won the shot put and placed among those top three discus throwers.

Another pair of senior Savana Quinn titles in both hurdles races lifted the Southern Valley Eagles into third place overall.

Familiar foes Southwest and Arapahoe tied for fourth place by both scoring 50 points. Complete results at left.
