Robert “Bob” L. Horn

PALISADE, Neb. — Robert “Bob” L. Horn, age 85, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Great Plains Health in North Platte after a brief battle with cancer.

Bob was born on May 28, 1931, to Elmer and Ethel (Davis) Horn in Mullen, Neb.  He attended elementary school in Mullen until the age of 12, at which time the family moved to a farm in southern Hayes County.  After completing high school, he attended McCook College for two years.  It was at this time Bob served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 12, 1952 – Jan. 23, 1954, during the Korean War, and later returned home to enroll at the University of Nebraska, graduating with a degree in agriculture economics and finance.

 While attending the University of Nebraska, Bob met Sue Kyle of Cozad, Neb., who later became his wife.  Bob and Sue were united in marriage April 14, 1957, in Cozad, officiated by Rev. Nye O. Bond.  They celebrated a beautiful marriage of 59 years and 11 months.  To this union two sons were born, Douglas L. Horn and Gregory S. Horn.

 After serving nearly 40 years in different fields of the real estate and finance, and a short term in the United State Postal Service, Bob retired to his small ranch, where he enjoyed raising livestock, and the pleasures of nature and as Bob always said, “enjoying the good life," most importantly camping, fishing, hunting, and restoring Cushman motor scooters.  Bob and Sue worked hand in hand, side by side both in work and pleasure. 

 Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ethel Horn; numerous aunts, uncles and daughter-in-law, Jani Horn.

 Bob is survived by his wife, Sue; sons, Doug Horn of Palisade, Greg Horn and wife, Kim Marchese of Omaha; three granddaughters, Katie Jo Horn and fiancé, Sean Coffey, Jessica Marie Horn and Julia Margaret, all of Lincoln, Neb.; numerous other family members and friends.

 Memorial services will be 10 a.m. on Friday, March 17, 2017, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Billy J. Kyle, Major U.S. Army (retired) officiating. Inurnment will be in the Palisade Cemetery with Military Honors.
