Big inning saves Indian split at Colby
COLBY, Kan. -- The Lady Indians softball team took to the road this past weekend to take on Colby CC.
MCC would struggle to get the bats going in game one (3-1 loss), but would bounce back with a big 12-6 win in game two, to earn the split.
The split puts McCook at 4-12 on the year, as these games started a 10 game road swing, which finishes at Otero, the opener for Region IX play.
In game one, the Lady Indians struck first, with an RBI groundout from Kendall Yasui to score Wengren, in the top of 3rd. C
olby would answer right back tying the game in the bottom half and taking the lead with a 2-run fourth.
The Lady Indians bats would go silent the rest of the way out, only collecting five singles for the game. Lexie Holm and Alexis Moeaki would get 4/5 of the Lady Indians offense, as they would collect two hits apiece.
Lexie Holm (1-2) would take the loss in the circle for the Lady Indians, going the distance, while giving up 3 runs on 8 hits and striking out onew.In game two, the Lady Indians bats showed up; collecting 18 hits, to cruise to the 12-6 victory. The Lady Indians would strike first, picking up 2 in the top of the first, but Colby would take the lead right back, picking up 4 in the inning.
MCC would explode for 7 runs in the fourth and add 3 more in the seventh to cruise to the 12-6 victory. Taya Thorpe would pick up the win (2-3) in the circle for MCC, throwing the complete game, while giving up six runs on ninehits while striking out four and walking six.Seven players had a hit for the Lady Indians, with Kendall Yasui and Alexis Moeaki leading the way with four hits apiece.
Alexis Ramirez and Angelica Evans had doubles as the only extra base hits for MCC.
