Younger Bison take second at tourney
OGALLALA, Neb. -- McCook's eighth-grade boys beat Ogallala and Alliance St. Agnes to take second in an eight-team tournament on Saturday.
Mark Arp's 11 points and another nine from Colten Stevens led the 40-31 opening victory over St. Agnes.
Ty Stevens followed with six points, Payton Craw scored five and Luke Maris added four.
Maris's 10 powered the Bison through their 31-16 semifinal conquest of Ogallala.
Leighton Fisher joined the top scorers thanks to his six points. Craw tallied five and Ty Stevens tossed in four points while helping beat the tournament hosts.
The Bison rumbled into Saturday's championship game against North Platte.
Successful shots did not join them throughout the 30-12 Bulldog triumph.
A team-high three points is never great to see, although both Maris and Dylan Beaumont delivered that number.
Craw and Ty Stevens delivered two points each. Arp and Isaiah Weimers hit one free throw apiece.
McCook still took home a second-place trophy in a tourney that also featured Sidney, Gothenburg, Kimball and Broken Bow.
On Monday, McCook "A" finished its 6-5 season with a 29-23 home loss to Cozad. Ty Stevens' eight points and Arp's five paced the Bison. The "B" team did romp to a 40-9 win as Isaiah Stoddard and Wiemers scored 10 points each. Those boys finished 4-4 overall.
McCook "C" (1-6-1 record) prevailed 8-6 behind Patrik Glaze, Ross Wiemers and Bryce Dutton (two points each).
