Steve Towery/McCook Gazette Despite a recent injury, senior Josiah Hegwood stepped in and helped the McCook Bison beat Cozad on "Seniors Night" at MHS Thursday evening. The Bison play their regular-season finale tonight at Grand Island Norhwest as part of a girls-boys doubleheader

McCOOK, Neb. -- McCook's seniors walked off the home court just like they should Thursday evening: with a final win.

A junior helped finish the super "Seniors Night" home finale against 12-win Cozad.

Junior Clayton Stevens lit up the nets for more points than any Bison in a single quarter all season.

He scored 16 of his team-high 18 points to help McCook celebrate a 54-45 victory.

Seniors Kyle Geisler, Easton Gillen and Josiah Hegwood all contributed to the Bison win.

Geisler nearly matched Cozad's entire team with five first-quarter points.

McCook (9-11 record) built a 14-6 lead whichwas never really relinquished.

Gillen added four points and his other usual ball-hawking abilities that don't appear on most stat sheets.

Hegwood battled through a painful recent injury to contribute some key minutes.

Junior Hunter Potthoff added 13 points even though a lot of shots didn't seem to cooperate during McCook's home finale.

The Bison still earned their second win in three games over teams boasting winning records. They knocked off the Gering Bulldogs, 62-58, Friday night.

Now McCook moves into tonight's regular-season finale at Grand Island Northwest beginning with girls.

The Bison scoring summary:

McCOOK (54) --Clayton Stevens 18 points, Hunter Potthoff 13, Kyle Geisler 9, Zach Schlager 7, Easton Gillen 4, Gabe Sehnert 3.
