Ode to Pre-Christmas

Tis a few days before Christmas and all through my house,

Are piles of wrapping paper scraps and in the attic a new mouse.

The stocking stuffers are yet to be bought,

But if I have to make another trip to the store, I think I'd rather be shot!

The children are hyper and leaving messes galore,

I've been running nonstop and geez Louise, my legs are sore!

My list of to-do's gets longer each day,

But every time Elf is on TV, I sit and watch it anyway!

Christmas music rings throughout every room,

Bing Crosby, Dean Martin and Pentatonix voices boom!

There's scotch tape pieces stuck on the table and ribbon on the floor,

But the presents are wrapped, so many our tree can't shelter anymore!

My counters are cluttered with cards, cookies and candy,

And I think I'll be up till midnight baking, won't that be just dandy?!

I didn't get my Christmas cards sent, like all the years past,

But maybe I can share one online super-fast?

I know I'm forgetting a gift or two,

And it's too late to ship so something else will have to do!

So far I've kept my patience, only rolling my eyes a couple times,

At the holiday shoppers cutting in front of me in lines.

I'm bound and determined to make Christmas a merry one,

Enjoying the reason for the season and the celebration of God's only son.

So I want to wish a very, Merry Christmas to everyone out there,

A safe and happy holiday season to all is my prayer!
