Merlin Charles Diederich

McCOOK, Neb. -- Merlin Charles Diederich passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016, at his home in McCook at the age of 84, after a battle with cancer.

He was born on April 2, 1932, at Selden, Kan., to parents, Charles H. and Matilda Lydia (Harold) Diederich. He graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1949.

Merlin entered the Army Airborne in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1954. He was united in marriage to Lola Joan Kaus on June 11, 1953, at Leoville, Kan. Merlin spent most of his life self-employed, working in sales and service in a floor covering business in Boulder, Colo.

He enjoyed spending time with his family. Other hobbies included gardening, fishing, bird watching and watching sports on TV.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Charles and Matilda Diederich; and one brother, Gerald C. Diederich.

He is survived by the love of his life, Lola J. (Kaus) of 63 years; children, Stephen C. Diederich (Marilyn), Sharon K. Koch (Beatle), David J. Diederich (Cheri), Ronald R. Diederich (Dawn), and Carol A. Young (Jim); 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Lois M. Jordan; and brothers, Vernon R., Allen J., and Leo W. Diederich.

Memorial services will be at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel, 607 Norris Ave., McCook, NE 69001, on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at 10 a.m., with Pastor Clark Bates officiating. A private family inurnment will be at a later time.
