'Publisher's Clearing House' scam reported
McCOOK, Neb. -- Several local residents have reported receiving calls claiming they had won millions of dollars and should prepare for the arrival of the "prize patrol" with the money.
The scam becomes apparent, however, after the caller, reportedly from Jamaica, asks for banking information so the "winner" can pay necessary "insurance" to receive the prize.
A caller told the Gazette this morning she received a call saying she had won $2.5 million and a Mercedes Benz car, and should get in her car to meet the "prize patrol."
She was alert enough not to fall for the scam by providing the banking information, however.
Authorities remind residents to never give out banking or other personal information to unsolicited callers or emails.
