McCOOK, Neb. -- The first of two women charged with suspected possession of heroin, and other drug related offenses in July, was sentenced to probation last week in Red Willow County District Court.

The woman, 29-year-old Tynia T. Miles of North Platte, accepted a plea agreement in August reducing a Class IV felony alleging possession of methamphetamine to a Class I misdemeanor for attempted possession, while dismissing a second Class IV felony alleging possession of heroin and an infraction alleging possession of drug paraphernalia.

Miles was subsequently sentenced to 18 months probation during a Oct. 3, 2016, hearing in District Court.

According to court documents, Miles was arrested along with 26-year-old Cynthia S. Valentine of Oberlin following a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 83 by the Nebraska State Patrol.

Valentine was placed under arrest for driving on a suspended driver's license and an initial search of the vehicle turned up two glass pipes containing meth residue located next to the front passenger seat. The items prompted the arrest of both Valentine and Miles.

A subsequent search of the vehicle discovered a white circular device containing a brown sticky like residue inside a black zippered bag, in addition to a brown crystal in the bottom of the bag which field tested positive for heroin.

Valentine accepted a plea agreement in September admitting guilt to misdemeanor offenses for attempted possession of methamphetamine and driving on a suspended license. She was originally facing a pair of Class IV felonies alleging possession of meth and possession of heroin; a Class 2 misdemeanor alleging no insurance; a pair of Class 3 misdemeanors alleging fictitious plates and driving on a suspended license; a Class 5 misdemeanor alleging no proof of ownership; and an infraction alleging possession of drug paraphernalia.

Valentine is scheduled for sentencing on the attempted possession and driver's license violation at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 7, 2016, in Red Willow County District Court.
