Raiders run all over Sailors
CURTIS, Neb. -- Medicine Valley's halftime adjustments really looked brilliant when Zac Bailey returned the next kickoff 77 yards to a touchdown Thursday night.
The Sutherland Sailors were sunk soon after in this showdown of impressive 1-0 teams.
Quarterback Ryan Klintworth ran two yards to a touchdown and then added another score from one yard away.
Just like that a 20-12 contest became 42-12. Bailey then showed why the Raiders' home field is perfectly located at West 4th and Crook Avenue in Curtis. He picked off a Sailor pass and streaked 49 yards for one more score.
The Raiders (2-0 record) romped 48-18 and have now totaled 116 points this season while allowing only 16 per contest.
Sailors were flexing with confidence from their 48-26 triumph over Southwest last week which featured seven rushing touchdowns.
They managed only two against Medicine Valley -- a number that Raider junior Landon Lenz matched before one quarter was finished.
Lenz's nine and 68- yard jaunts to football's magical zone gave Medicine Valley a 12-6 lead through one period.
Medicine Valley wasn't finished spreading poison to the Sailors' first-half points.
Just like last week, senior Logan Burke caught a TD pass from Klintworth. This connection covered 14 yards, and Lenz's ensuing two-point conversion run created the 20-12 halftime lead.
The Raiders ran off 28 more points before Connor Floyd's one-yard touchdown run.
Medicine will visit Dundy County next week in the quest to start 3-0.
