Roland E. Lorimer
ATWOOD, Kan. -- Roland Eugene Lorimer passed away Thursday (July 14, 2016) at the Rawlins County Health Center in Atwood, Kansas, at the age of 82. He was born in Beardsley, Kansas, the son of Irving "Dewey" and Laura (Ohlson) Lorimer. Roland and his siblings were reared on a farm in the Beardsley area. He attended country school in Beardsley and graduated from Trenton High School in Trenton, Nebraska, in 1952.
On May 31, 1953, Roland married Gladys Davis in Trenton. They made their home in Atwood and three children were born to their union, Jani, Jerry and Jay. The whole family was involved in Atwood school sports with both Jerry and Jay participating in football and wrestling, each winning state wrestling championships. Roland and Gladys attended nearly every sporting event during that time. Gladys preceded him in death in 1997.
Shortly after graduating from high school, Roland began working for Macfee Oil Company in Atwood. He purchased the business from Dean Macfee in 1975 and was proud to operate one of the oldest businesses in town. Three generations worked at the station and learned many life lessons along the way. Roland retired in 1998 after working at the station his entire career rarely missing a day's work except the occasional hunting or fishing trip with family and friends.
Roland was a member of the First Christian Church of Atwood, Atwood Investment Club, and Master Mason of Masonic Lodge #164 in Atwood. He was proud to be a Mason and was rarely seen without his ring. In addition, he served on the Atwood City Council.
Roland was united in marriage to Linda Lewallen on Jan. 20, 2001, in McDonald, Kansas, and they lived in Atwood. His family grew to include her two daughters and their families.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; three children, Jani Ruda, of Topeka, Jerry Lorimer and wife, Bernice, of Lecompton, and Jay Lorimer and wife, Kris, of Elizabeth, Colorado; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Gaylene and Marc Heileman, of Columbus, Georgia, and Sheri and Eric Rizner, of Erie, Colorado; one brother, Doran Lorimer, of Atwood; four grandchildren, Mark, Ann, Eric and Mikael; five step grandchildren, Isaiah, Andie, Aiden, David and Jonathan; five great-grandchildren, Chase, Carson, Andrew, Kayln and Piper; in addition to nieces, nephews and other family members and many friends.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Gladys; and three sisters, Leta Fox, Ruth Payton and Bette Hackney.
Services will be held at 10:30 am on Monday August 8, 2016, at the First Christian Church 216 S. Sixth Atwood, Kan.
