LeRoy Kenneth Cook

CULBERTSON, Neb. -- LeRoy Kenneth Cook, age 86 of Culbertson, Nebraska passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 3, 2016, at home.

He was born on March 6, 1930, to Elmer and Laura (Walker) Cook. He graduated from Culbertson High School in 1947. He married Betty Schmidt on Oct. 2, 1949. To this union three children were born: Linda, Laurie and Coni.

LeRoy was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He was active in the church serving on the church council, the finance committee and being an elder. He also served on the Farmers Co-op Board of Directors. LeRoy started farming in 1949 and sold seed corn for 25 years. He also drove a medical courier route for 24 years, retiring in 2011.

He enjoyed square dancing, antique cars and tractors, and camping. His favorite pastime was reading history and western novels.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Elmer and Laura; and his sisters, Karen Kliewer, Virginia Scott and infant sister, Barbara.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty, of Culbertson; daughters, Linda (Roger) Patterson of Sacramento, Calif., Laurie (Chris) Ryan of North Platte, Neb., and Coni (Malcolm) Ward of Anthem, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Alyssa (Anthony) Scotto, Erin (Josh) Ball and Aaron (Sarah) Ryan; and three great-grandchildren; sisters, Karel (Jerry) Applebee of Fort Collins, Colo., and Dottie (Jim) Groen of Denver, Colo.; and brother, Ron (Lila) Cook of Culbertson; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson or Community Health Care and Hospice.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook from 2 to 6 p.m. The family will be present from 4 to 5 p.m. to greet friends. Friends may go online at www.herrmannfh.com to extend condolences to the family.

Funeral services will be at St John's Lutheran Church, Culbertson, on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Bradley Rick officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.
