McCOOK, Neb. -- A new scholarship for Southwest Nebraska students has been established for those working or studying in the health care field, as well as non-traditional students who are returning to school to pursue a degree in the medical field.

The Barbara Fassler-Neumann Nursing Scholarship provides scholarships to residents of Southwest Nebraska to pursue a degree or certification in nursing or another related medical field at an accredited college, community college, or vocational school.

The Fassler-Neumann Scholarship is funded through an endowment account established by the generosity of Barbara Fassler-Neumann, a former Culbertson resident, and managed by the McCook Community Foundation Fund, an affiliated fund of the Nebraska Community Foundation.

A scholarship will be awarded annually to students and residents of Southwest Nebraska, with preference given to graduates from McCook High School or to those who have resided in the area for at least four years, to those expressing a desire to return to or stay within the Southwest Nebraska area after graduating or receiving accreditation, and to nontraditional students, especially those working in a health care field or at a health care facility in Southwest Nebraska.

The applicant must be a graduating senior of an area high school, a graduate of an area high school currently pursuing study in the medical field, or be a resident of Southwest Nebraska for the past four years and have graduated with a high school degree.

Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Scholarship Selection Committee of the McCook Community Foundation Fund.

The application deadline is March 31. For scholarship applications, students may contact the McCook Community Foundation Fund Coordinator or the counselors at their high schools in the five-county region, or they may visit the MCFF webpage at www.nebcommfound.org/fund/mccook.

The McCook Community Foundation Fund is an affiliated fund of the Nebraska Community Foundation. NCF is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization established in 1993 to provide strategic planning, education, training and financial management to affiliated funds across Nebraska.
