LINCOLN, Neb. - In its commitment to strengthen and promote the leadership skills of Nebraska's hospital employees, the Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA) Research and Educational Foundation is pleased to announce Class XIII of the NHA Leadership Institute. This exclusive 10-month program enhances each participant's ability to lead in the rapidly changing and diverse health care industry. The program provides professional education to enhance the skills needed to facilitate positive change and innovation in our state's hospitals.

Local members include Tera Boyd; Kelsey Esch; Jennifer Liess, RN; Sara Mashek, OT: Julie Smith and Denise Volquardsen, all of Community Hospital, McCook.

Sponsored by LMC Insurance & Risk Services, the Institute provides current and up-and-coming hospital and health care leaders with the necessary skills to develop into exceptional leaders. Class XIII's record 38 participants will improve their leadership skills and enhance their effectiveness in the health care field, while preserving the care and compassion critical to quality health care delivery - ultimately augmenting their contributions to their respective organizations, their communities and the state as a whole.

This initiative includes a comprehensive curriculum, combining core leadership competency working sessions with multiple layers of applied practice in health care. The curriculum is designed to be highly interactive with flexible online and teleconference accessibility - perfect for busy health care professionals.

Facilitated by faculty from Bellevue University, the NHA Leadership Institute delivers focused curriculum that explores human motivation, leadership styles and personality traits, team dynamics, coaching, conflict resolution and succession management, as well as many other contemporary leadership issues. The format provides the flexibility and opportunity to interact with other Nebraska health care professionals.

"The health care industry continues to face growing challenges. The next generation of hospital and health care leaders must possess the knowledge and skill required to overcome those challenges and develop innovative solutions," said Jon Borton, NHA vice president of educational services.
