Evidence tampering charge nets probation

McCOOK, Neb. -- A Cambridge, Nebraska, man was sentenced to probation in Red Willow County District Court on felony tampering with physical evidence.

The offender, 43-year-old David A. Clements, took the plea, admitting guilt to the Class IV felony tampering charge and was sentenced to 30 months probation. Clements was facing a pair of Class IV felony offenses alleging possession of methamphetamine and possession of alprazolam, in addition to infractions for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Clements was arrested in March, along with Courtnie Clements and Derek Rouse, following a report of someone snorting a white powdery substance near the military tank at Barnett Park. Courtnie Clements' 2-year-old daughter was taken into the care of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services at the time of the arrests. Clements was sentenced in August to 30 months probation and ordered to pay $400 in fines after being convicted of felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor child abuse.

Other activity in Red Willow County District Court, Sept. 14, 2015:

* A plea agreement was reached with 42-year-old Candi L. Brennan of Herndon, Kansas, admitting guilt to a trio of felony drug charges and other offenses. Brennan was subsequently scheduled for sentencing at 9 a.m. on Nov. 2, 2015.

Brennan's plea agreement reduced a Class 3 felony offense alleging possession of oxycodone with intent to deliver to a lesser Class IV felony offense for possession of oxycodone and admitted guilt to a pair of Class IV felony offenses for possession of hydrocodone and possession of methamphetamine; an infraction for speeding 75 mph in a 50 mph zone; and an infraction for possession of marijuana. The plea agreement also dismissed misdemeanor offenses for not having vehicle registration, liability insurance and possessing an open alcohol container.

* Twenty-nine-year-old Keenan Jorschumb pleaded not guilty to multiple felony offenses and was subsequently scheduled for a motions hearing at 10:45 a.m. on Oct. 5, 2015.

Jorschumb is facing a Class ID felony offense alleging possession of a firearm by a felon; a Class 3 felony alleging possession or receipt of a stolen firearm; a Class IV felony alleging possession of methamphetamine; two infractions alleging possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia; and two misdemeanor offenses alleging driving under suspension and the use of fictitious license plates.

* Fifty-three-year-old Candance Reed of Indianola, Nebraska, pleaded not guilty to a Class IV felony alleging possession of methamphetamine and an infraction for possession of drug paraphernalia. Reed was subsequently scheduled for a motions hearing at 9 a.m. on Nov. 2, 2015.

* An 18-year-old McCook man was arraigned on felony theft and burglary charges and subsequently scheduled for a motions hearing to transfer the case to County Court at 3 p.m. on Dec. 18, 2015. The man, Colin R. McConnell of 803 W. Fourth Street (also known as Colin McConnell-Vontz) is facing a Class 3 felony alleging theft by unlawful taking; a Class IV felony alleging attempted burglary; and a Class I misdemeanor alleging he resisted arrest.

* A sentencing hearing for 31-year-old Benjamin R. Farr of 508 E. First Street Apt. 3 was continued until 9:15 a.m. on Nov. 2, 2015. Farr accepted a plea agreement in July admitting guilt to a Class IV felony offense for possession of methamphetamine and dismissing an infraction for possession of drug paraphernalia.
