Accidents

Aug. 12

7:25 p.m., U.S. Highway 6 and 34 and north U.S. Highway 83 -- a sports utility vehicle driven by Devon Strunk-Martin, 17, of 1206 W. First and owned by Deanna L. Strunk of the same address, collided with the rear of a sports utility vehicle driven by Jeffrey R. Ruggles, 37, of 38953 Road 725, that had stopped suddenly. Ruggles said the vehicle in front of him stopped abruptly, causing him to brake and the Strunk-Martin vehicle was not able to stop as fast. Combined estimated damages at $3,000.

Aug. 15

11:52 a.m., Casey's West parking lot --a pickup driven by Russell L. Carpenter, 46, of 102 South Street, backed from a parking stall and struck a vehicle waiting for a gas pump driven by Marie D. Baker, 56, of 1502 W. Fairacres. Estimated damages for Baker vehicle at $2,000.

12:15 p.m., West 12th and M -- a vehicle driven by Maxine Logan, 95, of 1402 W. Circle Drive and a sports utility vehicle driven by Brianna L. Nawara, 19, of Cambridge, entered the intersection at the same time and collided. The impact of the collision caused the Logan vehicle to drift down West 12th until a witness stopped the vehicle, with the Nawara vehicle coming to rest over the sidewalk in the yard of 1207 West M. The Logan vehicle was towed from the scene and she was transported by McCook EMS to Community Hospital. Combined estimated damages at $5,000.

12:38 p.m., Westview Plaza -- a vehicle driven by Jeron Messersmith, 20, of 411 E. Fifth, backed from a parking stall and collided with a sports utility vehicle driven by Richard E. Walter, 86, of 1009 Westridge. Combined estimated damages at $7,500 with the Walter vehicle towed from the scene.

Aug. 16, 3:40 p.m., 100 block of East Fourth -- a vehicle driven by Frances T. Maret, 45, of 106 E. Fourth, backed from a driveway and collided with a pickup traveling on East Fourth driven by Scott A. McConville, 33, of 804 West K. Combined estimated damages at $7,000.

Aug. 17, 6 p.m., Walmart parking lot -- LaJuana M. Davis, age unavailable, of 603 E. Seventh, notified police that her vehicle was struck by an unknown driver, with damages on the left rear panel, either at Walmart or at work. Damages estimated at $700.

Aug. 18, 12:54 p.m., 1000 block of W. Third -- a van driven by Earl D. Denio, 67, of Stratton, backed from a parking stall and collided with a parked vehicle owned by Amanda M. Brown, age unavailable, of 511 West J. Estimated damaged to Brown vehicle at $750.

Aug. 19, 3:38 p.m., W. Seventh Street and Sunset -- a vehicle driven by Jadyn D. Reynolds, 16, of 13 Mashie Drive and owned by Gregory W. Reynolds of 701 W Fourth, collided with the rear of sports utility vehicle driven by Donna E. Mullanix, 81, of 902 Westridge. Reynolds said the Mullanix vehicle stopped suddenly and she did not have to time to brake. Mullanix said she stopped as children were walking across the street from the junior high. Combined estimated damages at $500.

Aug. 26, 11:03 p.m., 1104 W. Fourth -- a sports utility vehicle driven by Helen R. Solberg, 20, of 1305 W. Fifth, backed into a parked pickup owned by Earl W. McNutt, age unavailable, of 1104 W. Fourth. Combined estimated damages at $3,000.
