Searching Sandy

Luna, the Red Willow County, Nebraska, Sheriff's Department's K9 officer, searches "Sandy," the DeGroff's Department Store coin-op horse on display at the High Plains Museum in McCook Sunday afternoon. Luna and her handler, Deputy Lt. Justin Davis, demonstrated Luna's drug search and building search abilities to members of the High Plains Historical Society who had gathered for their annual meeting. Historical society members made a donation of $100 to a fund to purchase a torso-fitting harness and bullet-proof and stab-resistant "ballistic protection" vest for Luna, "the long paw of the law." Luna is a 31⁄2-year-old Belgian Malinois born in Holland. She started her service with the sheriff's department in late 2014.
