Chanta Lynett (Vrbas) Brown
Nov. 29, 1979 - July 17, 2015
OMAHA, Neb. -- Chanta Lynett (Vrbas) Brown was born Nov. 29, 1979, to Gaylord and Ronda (Hudson) Vrbas. She and her two brothers were raised south of Stratton on the family farm.
Chanta was beautiful, talented, always smiling, and her bubbly personality was contagious. Despite constant teasing from her brothers, and putting up with their antics, an unbreakable bond formed among Aubrey, Chanta, and Jared, which will carry on in their hearts forever. She loved snowmobiling and riding around in the Mule with her dad, brothers, and grandparents, even if she did end up in the ditch. Chanta was active in 4-H. She especially loved showing her pigs, and buying the runts at the auction. Mom was an easy target to get the money for those pigs. Also, she learned the craft of cake decorating, which led to her creating numerous birthday cakes for her family and friends. Her Grandma Alice's cooking lessons stayed with her throughout her life.
After graduating from Stratton High School in 1999, Chanta attended the College of Hair Design in Lincoln, Nebraska. After several years of working as a cosmetologist, her love of the mountains took her to Colorado, where she continued her career and she made a home with her fiancé, Jesse Brown, and her cats and dog.
On April 29, 2009, Chanta was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS). After a long and valiant fight, she entered peacefully into heaven on July 17, 2015.
Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Blase and Alice Vrbas, and Delmer and Lylas Hudson; her uncle, Randy Hudson; and her cousin, Jim Purnell.
Survivors include her beloved fiancé, Jesse; her parents, Gaylord and Ronda; brothers, Aubrey (Farris) Vrbas of Kimball, Nebraska and Jared (Laken) Vrbas of Trenton, Nebraska; nieces and nephews, Issaac, Eastyn, Alivia, Alycia, Lucas, Dakota, and Jaspen; aunts and uncles, Sally Hudson, Sharon (Richard) Polson, Vernetta (Don) Dirks, Charlene (Robert) Mendoza, and Lynett (Bob) Purnell. Memorials may be given in Chanta's name.
