Prayers for Superman
I don't usually ask for this but I think it's important and necessary. Plus, in great numbers, can be quite efficient. I'm asking for prayer. Not for me, but for the poor soul who has chosen, for some odd reason, to sit in the passenger seat of the Driver's Education car with my 15 year old, very inexperienced, but overly confident daughter.
I don't know who this man is that has chosen to put his life in her hands for two weeks every morning, but I pray for him daily. What a courageous servant to society! And I would imagine no one ever thinks about his sacrifice for our town's overall safety so that's why I wanted to bring it up. He's the unnoticed hero, the daring man who gets up before dawn courageously volunteering to sit in the passenger seat while allowing an ignorant, young teenager to drive a small car over 45 miles per hour.
My daughter started her class this week and "claims", after three classes, that she never once has gotten nervous, or had any mistakes while driving. I have a really hard time believing that. She has actually been behind the wheel of a standard vehicle roughly six times and for a very short amount of time. Her knowledge of driving a two ton automobile is beyond minimal.
She rests her experience on a few go-cart rides growing up. Therefore, I expected her to be at least a tad bit nervous when taking off with a stranger in the passenger seat as well as a classmate in the backseat studying her every move. And make at least one mistake here and there. Therefore, that's why I again ask for prayers for this unfortunate gentleman responsible for guiding my daughter through town because she apparently has "got it" and no need to be nervous.
And it may be best to throw in some prayers for the poor classmate forced to ride in the backseat, too. This helpless soul paid $250 plus books to basically hand their lives over to the fate of my kid's driving ability. I hope they sit in the middle of the backseat, double belted. My only assurance is that the superman Driver's Ed instructor has his own brake in the passenger floor. Knowing that he can instantly stop my child from ramming the car into a row of trees or at minimum, slow her down on the corners so the car stays grounded, helps me sleep better at night.
My only wish is that he was equipped with a steering wheel on his side as well. I know when I ride with her, I find myself leaning left in my seat in hopes it will make the truck move left and avoid taking out all the driver's side mirrors of the parked cars were passing on the street. I'm sure the Driver's Ed guy knows what I'm talking about by now.
Anyway, an extra steering wheel, maybe a few more airbags and some flashing lights and I'll feel a little more comfortable sending her off to drive strangers around town. But since that's not in the budget, please remember this saint of a man riding around town with my know-it-all kid at the helm. He's a self-sacrificing human with a lot of guts! He deserves a prayer that he survives one more week of the unknown he faces each day.
Thank you and God Bless!
