BENKELMAN, Neb. -- William "Willie" J. Wall, age 94, passed away Thursday June 18, 2015, at the Dundy County Hospital.
William was born on Dec. 13, 1920, to William E. and Stella E. (Altman) Wall in Haigler, Nebraska.
Willie joined the United States Army on Sept. 28, 1942, serving in the European, African Theatres during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 9, 1945.
On Sept. 3, 1942, he married Donna M. Stroup in Trenton, Nebraska. To this union two girls were born. The couple made their home in the Benkelman area, where Willie farmed and was an electrician.
Willie enjoyed fishing and hunting, playing pool and he loved to dance.
He was a member of the Benkelman United Methodist Church, the NRD, VFW and the American Legion Post No. 65.
Survivors include his daughters, Greta Sawyer and husband, Derald of Sioux City, Iowa, and Sherryl Williams and husband, Gene of McCook; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna; brothers, Vern, Kenny, Babe, Tommy, Max, Donald and Hugh; and sisters, Shirley, Ruth and Helen.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. MDT on Friday, June 26, 2015, at Benkelman United Methodist Church with Rev. Sheila Taylor officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors will be in the Benkelman Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in his name to the Midlands Chapter of Nebraska Multiple Sclerosis Society in care of Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home.
