CULBERTSON, Neb. -- Donald W. Fricke, Sr., age 78, of Culbertson, passed away at Community Hospital of McCook on Monday, May 25, 2015.
He was born in Comstock, Nebraska, on Dec. 15, 1936, to Fredrick and Rhoda (Amberry) Fricke. Donald finished his GED in 1980.
Donald married Linda Gaver on Dec. 26, 1960. The couple lived in Culbertson raising their family. Donald worked as an over-the-road trucker for Cornbelt Chemical and later Van Diest. He traveled through the states of Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, Iowa and Kansas.
Donald loved to camp and fish and square dance. He was known for his great humor, even if sometimes it was not appropriate, according to family members. He was a long-time Sunday School teacher and a member of the Bethel Mission Church of Culbertson. Donald loved his kids and grandkids. He stated that "Life is about the babies."
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Carl, Harold, Fred and Bill; and two sisters, Rozina and Leona.
Donald is survived by his wife, Linda of Culbertson; three daughters, Debra Kay and husband, Danny Steffa of Alliance, Nebraska; Ladonna Rozmiarek of Hastings, Nebraska; and Vickie and husband, Richard Shires of Fort Worth, Texas; son, Donald Jr. of Elwood, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren and blessed with 15 great-grandchildren: Mathew and two great-grandchildren; Nickole and two great-grandchildren; Lindsay and two great-grandchildren; David and three great-grandchildren; Audrey and two great-grandchildren; Chassy and two great-grandchildren; Denise and two great-grandchildren; Shelby, Michael, Lexie, McKenzie, Gary and Tim; brother, Clarence of Roscoe, Nebraska; and mother-in-law, Audrey Gaver of McCook, Nebraska.
Visitation is today until 6 p.m. at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook, Nebraska. Memorial services will be Friday, May 29, 2015, 11 a.m. at Bethel Mission Church in Culbertson with Pastor Jason Smith officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at a future date in the Culbertson Cemetery.
