KEARNEY, Neb. -- Hazel Marie Durner, 81, died Sunday (April 26, 2015), at CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.
She was born April 6, 1934, to Ralph and Sylvia Rosier Moore at Freedom, Nebraska, in Frontier County. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1951. She married James "Eldon" Durner on Sept. 4, 1954. They moved to Whidbey Island in Oak Harbor, Washington, where her husband was stationed in the U.S. Navy.
She was a teacher at country schools and later she worked at Grants in McCook, the vet clinic in Holbrook and for many years at Wagner's in Arapahoe, Nebraska. She was a 4-H leader, a member of the Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Holbrook Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon; her parents; parents-in-law, Fred and Evalena Durner; sister, Barbara Wymore; brother, Harold Moore; brothers-in-law, Marvin Wymore, Richard Allen, Robert Durner and wife, Karen; and grandchild, Aundrea Renee Young.
Survivors include her children, Lisa Vassar of Arapahoe and Michael Durner of Brule, Nebraska; sister, JoAnn and husband, Glenn DeVries of Trumbull, Nebraska; brothers, Wayne Moore and Stanley and wife, Cindy Moore of Bartley, Nebraska; sisters-in-law, Marian Moore of McCook, Nebraska, Norma Wymore and Margaret Allen of Cambridge, Marge and husband, Jim Nixon of Bartley, and Laura and husband, Gerald Wolfe of Rock Springs, Wyoming; brother-in-law, Raymond and wife, Barbara Durner of Cambridge; and three grandchildren.
Visitation is Thursday, April 30, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to the service at the church.
Funeral services are Friday, May 1, 2015, 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Holbrook, Nebraska, with the Rev. Dale Whitson officiating. Interment is at the Bartley Cemetery in Bartley. Memorials may be given in her name to the Nebraska Children's Home of Omaha, Nebraska.
