COZAD, Neb. -- Wayne E. Wolford, age 79, of Cozad, died April 16, 2015, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Wayne was born east of Kearney on the family farm on July 19, 1935, to Cecil M. and Leanda (Munson) Wolford. He graduated from Kearney High School with the class of 1952. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1958 with bachelor's degree in agricultural engineering. In 1955, he married Marcelene A. Innes in Kearney. To this union three children were born: Steve, Greg and Jodi. Wayne and Marcey lived in Lincoln, Nebraska; Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Palatine, Illinois; and in Cozad since 1969.
Wayne worked for Martin Marietta in Scottsbluff, Portland Cement Association of Chicago, Paulsen Building and Supply of Cozad, and he retired from Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District in 1997.
Wayne was a member of The Nebraska Society of Professional Engineers, the Mid-States Chapter of Professional Engineers, the Cozad Elks Lodge and the First Presbyterian Church of Cozad. He was a volunteer for the Red Cross, the Cozad Grand Generation Center, CASA and Meals on Wheels.
In his retirement, Wayne enjoyed traveling by car, golfing, playing bridge and pinochle, fishing, reading, volunteering, and listening to music. His most prized possession was his family.
He is survived by his children, Steve (Danna) Wolford of Hastings; Greg (Pam) Wolford of McCook and Jodi (Mike) Kocher of Lincoln. His grandchildren are Megan (Karl) Launchbaugh, Neil (Whitney) Wolford, Adam (Sarah) Wolford, Kate (Jake) Wawrzynkiewicz, Philip Kocher and fiancée, Elizabeth Christensen, Ted Kocher, Erin Kocher and Sarah Kocher. His great-grandchildren are Alexis Longshore, Harper Launchbaugh, Marceline and Silas Wolford, and Noah Wawrzynkiewicz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister and his wife, Marcelene, in 2010.
A memorial has been established in his memory. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Memorial services will be Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Karen Woo officiating. Inurnment will be at Fairview Cemetery, south of Cozad. Those wishing to sign the memorial book may do so on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
